A woman of 40 years whose primary concern is lateral thigh excess. The lateral thigh localized fat deposits (LFDs) are partially visible from this anterior Photo.
Following liposuction the overall contour is more appealing.
The LFDs are more obvious when the thighs are Photoed from the posterior. They give the buttocks an overly "pear-shaped" appearance. (Notice the surface irregularities.)
The lateral thighs are trimmed by liposuction, giving the buttocks a rounder appearance. (Notice that surface irregularities have not been cured by the treatment.)
This patient in her 30's was concerned about her outer thighs, but also wished to have treatment for her hips and upper inner thighs as well.
After treatment her overall contour is improved. However, note the more darkly colored area on the left lateral thigh. This "hemosiderin" deposit is one of the potential cosmetic complications of liposuction. While such "bronzing" of the skin is unusual and usually resolves over time, it may on occasion be permanent.
The hip above and the lateral thigh bulge below both influence the shape of the buttocks.
Treatment above and below the buttocks have contributed to a more harmonious flow through the hip-buttocks-thigh complex.
This is similar to the previous patient (2), though the excesses are smaller. This 25 year old's hips and lateral thighs detract from a contour that would otherwise be ideal.
Suctioning the hips above and the lateral thighs below has made a nice change.
The change is much harder to see from the oblique angle, since the amounts needing removal were small.
This 38 year old diabetic feels she is too "block-shaped" around the thighs and hips. She watches here weight, and her blood sugars are very well controlled through use of an insulin pump, (note tubing on the abdomen).
With the hips and lateral thighs reduced, a better overall harmony in the form is achieved.
The pre-op contour issues are even more notable from the posterior.
The patient was pleased with the change shown here at 4 months post-op. It might have been well to remove just a bit less from each lateral thigh to preserve better roundness in the lower buttocks.
This woman of 27 wishes to have what she calls her "wide butt" made narrower. Analysis shows that she has hip and lateral thigh excesses as well as buttock excess, (better seen in profile Photo).
Liposuction of her hips, buttocks and lateral thighs has made a substantial change with which she is pleased. However, it is well to note that surgery has not changed the full, gynoid character of her buttock-thigh complex. (Also note the little, so-called "banana rolls" under each buttock. These could be made better with secondary superficial suctioning that this patient declined.)
In profile we better see the upper buttocks excess which produces some measure of "steatopygia," or "shelf butt."
Post-operatively, the patient has a more sloping upper buttocks that is more to her liking. It is important to note, however, that many women prefer the upper buttocks prominence that this patient sought to change.
This woman has excesses in both the outer thigh and the hip areas. She wanted only the thighs treated.

The lateral hips and adjacent buttocks look improved by the procedure, but a better outcome might have been achieved if the hips had received modest treatment as well. The patient was pleased with this result and desired no secondary surgery.
This woman of 52 years had laxity of the skin on her thighs, together with notable excesses anteriorly and laterally. She was made aware that her skin would not likely tighten sufficiently after liposuction, and that new irregularities would result.
After surgery the contour change is significant and the irregularities seen posteriorly are, happily, not much worse than pre-op.

The irregularities were thought by this patient to be a small price to pay for the overall transformation in contour. She was thrilled with the difference that the surgery made in the fit of her clothes and her appearance in pants.
An ideal candidate for minimally invasive body contouring surgery. An athletic young woman very near ideal body weight with localized, gender-specific fatty excesses. Note the hip, outer and inner thigh excesses.
The skin of a young person usually responds beautifully and shrinks to the new form. However, even in young people, one must be careful not to expect too much in certain areas, particularly the inner thigh. There is usually little fatty excess here, and the skin is loose even on young women. The inner thighs are the areas most involved with post-operative irregularities.

This thin woman of 36 was concerned about the contour of her outer thighs.
Both the outer thighs and the hips regions were treated.

This post-op result, with which the patient was satisfied, might have been made better by slightly more aggressive reduction of the hips.
Another ideal candidate for liposuction. A 21 year old with attractive form and localized adiposity.

Note the asymmetry of the buttocks and thighs. This patient has a slight spinal curvature and is standing with most of her wright on her right leg. Also note the slight depression in the lateral contour of the right buttock.
The lateral depression remains, but the other contours are much improved. Here the patient is standing with her weight mostly on the left leg, helping to even the level of the buttocks creases.
This patient sought significant change through body contouring. At age 42, she was already showing some signs of skin laxity, increasing the likelihood for post-operative irregularities.
Her hips and thighs were reduced with removal of several liters of fat, (the abdomen was also treated).
Happily, the irregularities were minor and the patient was very happy with her notably reduced size through the midsection.

Reduction of the hips and lateral thighs has been accomplished.
The lateral thigh excess on this patient is more notable on her left. Such asymmetry is not at all uncommon.
From the frontal Photo the asymmetry appears to have been eliminated.
As seen from the back, some asymmetry persists post-operatively with the left lateral thigh still slightly more full.
A very healthy young dancer had concern about hips, outer and inner thighs. There was very little fat in the inner thigh, and the patient was advised to avoid treating this potentially treacherous area.
From the frontal Photo, the post-op change appears slight because her LFDs presented primarily in the posterior.
From the posterior Photo we see the lateral thigh excesses and the hip/flank deposits.
A more pleasing shape has been achieved by working both above and below the buttocks.
