The Neck is often approached surgically
as a part of facelift surgery. For many in need of full facial rejuvenation,
the neck is the feature most ugently in need of correction, showing
more sagging and loss of contour than the other facial areas. Certain
individuals need only lower third facial correction. For these, a
sharpening of the jawline and resuspension/defatting of the neck in
a "necklift" can produce a truly dramatic change. The neck may be approached though incisions in the hairlines behind the ears or via a small. inconspicuous incision beneath the chin. If the skin and muscle quaility is good and the patient suffers only from blunting of the neck angle from excess fat, liposuction alone can produce laudible results. This can be accomplished without any significant incisions ( i.e. only a few, tiny puctures are needed).
If the neck is to be treated along with other general rejuvenative procedures, the under-chin incision will allow the surgeon to tighten loose muscles which produce the "turkey-gobbler" deformity. Excess fat may also be "vacuumed" from the area, allowing the skin lifted in the facelift to redrape over a new, sharper profile.
